Privacy Policy

Effective Date: September 28, 2026
Last Updated: September 28, 2026

Welcome to ClassMate (“the Application”, “we”, “our”, or “us”), developed and published by Kolibri. We are committed to safeguarding the privacy of our users, particularly students and learners of all levels.

This Privacy Policy explains in detail how ClassMate handles your information, our strict offline-first data protection architecture, the third-party advertising SDKs integrated into the app, your privacy rights under global regulations (including GDPR and CCPA), and how you can contact us with any questions.

By downloading, installing, accessing, or using ClassMate, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any part of this policy, please do not use the application.

1. Overview and Core Privacy Principles

ClassMate is engineered from the ground up as a 100% offline-first application. Our privacy philosophy is founded on the following core principles:

  • No User Account Required: You do not need to register, log in, or provide personal credentials (such as your name, email address, phone number, or social media accounts) to use any feature of ClassMate.
  • Zero Cloud Sync: We do not operate external cloud servers or remote databases that collect, store, or process your academic schedule, assignments, or study notes.
  • Local Storage Exclusivity: All information you input into ClassMate remains stored locally on your device in secure app-private storage.
  • No Sale of Personal Data: We do not sell, rent, monetize, or broker your personal information or academic records under any circumstances.

2. Information You Provide to the Application

When you use ClassMate to manage your academic life, you may create and save content locally. This includes:

  • Course and Timetable Data: Course names, course codes, days of the week, start and end times, room numbers, lecture hall venues, instructor names, and custom color tags.
  • Task and Assignment Data: Task titles, course associations, due dates, due times, priority levels (High, Normal, Low), completion status, and personal study notes or instructions.
  • App Preferences: Visual theme preference (Light, Dark, or System Default), first day of the week setting (Monday or Sunday), and notification reminder toggle states.

Storage & Access: All the above data is saved exclusively in local application memory (utilizing Android SQLite database and SharedPreferences) within your device's sandboxed environment. Kolibri has no access to this data.

3. Third-Party Services and Automatically Collected Information

To support the ongoing maintenance, testing, and free distribution of ClassMate, the application integrates third-party services, specifically Google AdMob and Google Play Services. These third-party providers may automatically collect certain diagnostic and non-personally identifiable technical information from your device.

A. Google AdMob (Advertising)

ClassMate displays non-intrusive banner advertisements provided by Google AdMob. Google AdMob may collect and process information such as:

  • Device Identifiers: Advertising ID (e.g., Google Advertising ID / GAID), Android ID, or other anonymous hardware identifiers.
  • Technical Information: IP address, device model, operating system version, screen resolution, mobile carrier, and language settings.
  • Interaction Data: Ad views, clicks, impressions, and diagnostic crash data related to ad performance.

Google uses this information to deliver advertisements, prevent advertising fraud, and analyze ad effectiveness in compliance with applicable laws.

For more details on how Google handles advertising data, please review:

B. Controlling Personalized Advertising

You can manage, reset, or delete your Android Advertising ID at any time via your device settings:

  • On Android devices: Open Settings › Google › Ads (or Privacy › Ads), then select Reset advertising ID or Delete advertising ID.
  • You may also enable Opt out of Ads Personalization or toggle off personalized ads depending on your Android version.

4. Device Permissions and Justification

ClassMate requests only the minimal permissions strictly necessary to deliver its core functionality. We do not request sensitive permissions such as Location, Camera, Contacts, Microphone, or Storage access. The requested permissions include:

Permission API Level Purpose and Usage
android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS Android 13+ (API 33+) Required strictly to display local class start alerts and assignment deadline notifications scheduled by you. Handled entirely on-device via AlarmManager/WorkManager.
android.permission.INTERNET All Android versions Required solely by the Google AdMob SDK to load banner advertisements and to open external web links (e.g., User Guide or Play Store review) when tapped by the user.
android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE All Android versions Used by the Google AdMob SDK to determine whether an active internet connection is available before attempting to request banner ads.

5. Data Retention, Backup, and Deletion

Because ClassMate operates without centralized accounts or servers, you possess complete sovereignty over your data:

  • Individual Record Deletion: You can edit or permanently delete any course or task item at any time directly within the app interface.
  • Complete Data Erasure: To completely wipe all ClassMate data, open your device's Settings › Apps › ClassMate › Storage and tap Clear Data / Clear Storage.
  • Application Uninstallation: Uninstalling ClassMate from your device immediately and permanently removes all stored timetables, tasks, notes, and preferences from your phone.
  • Data Backup: If your device utilizes Android's native system backup (Google Drive backup), your app data may be included in your private encrypted system backup. You can manage or disable this in your phone's Google Backup settings.

6. Children’s Privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K)

ClassMate is an academic organization tool intended for general student audiences, including primary, secondary, and higher education students. We recognize the importance of safeguarding children's privacy online:

  • We do not knowingly collect, solicit, or store personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Union).
  • The app does not feature social sharing, chat systems, public profiles, or location tracking.
  • Advertisements served through Google AdMob adhere to Google's Families and Child-Directed policies when applicable.

If a parent or guardian discovers that their child has provided personal information to third-party services through our application without consent, please contact us immediately at kolibri.jhonyclin@gmail.com so we can take appropriate corrective actions.

7. Rights of European Users (GDPR)

If you reside in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you enjoy specific statutory rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including:

  • Right of Access: The right to confirm whether your personal data is processed and request copies of it. In ClassMate, 100% of your data is visible to you directly within the app.
  • Right to Rectification: The right to update or correct inaccurate data, which you can do instantly via the in-app edit dialogs.
  • Right to Erasure (“Right to be Forgotten”): The right to have all your data deleted, which you can accomplish at any time by clearing app data or uninstalling the app.
  • Right to Restrict or Object to Processing: You may object to personalized advertising by resetting or disabling your Google Advertising ID in your device settings.
  • Legal Basis for Processing: Any minimal processing performed by third-party advertising SDKs is based on our legitimate interest in providing a free, functional service, or your explicit consent where required by European law.

8. Rights of California Users (CCPA / CPRA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents are entitled to know what categories of personal information are collected and whether such information is sold or shared:

  • Categories Collected: ClassMate itself collects no personal information. Third-party advertising partners (Google AdMob) may collect unique device identifiers and usage metrics.
  • No Sale or Sharing of Personal Data: Kolibri does not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for monetary or valuable consideration.
  • Non-Discrimination: We will never discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA/CPRA rights.

9. Security Measures

We prioritize the security of your academic information. While ClassMate does not transmit data over the network, your local data is protected by the Android Operating System's application sandboxing architecture. Each Android application runs in its own isolated process with unique UID permissions, preventing unauthorized apps on your device from accessing ClassMate's internal database.

10. External Links to Third-Party Websites

ClassMate may contain links to external websites, such as our official documentation guide (https://kolibriindonesia.com/classmate-guide), developer website, and Google Play Store listing. Whenever you tap an external link, a confirmation prompt will ask for your consent before opening your browser.

Please note that we have no control over the privacy policies or content of external websites. We encourage you to review the privacy notices of any third-party website you visit.

11. Changes and Updates to This Privacy Policy

We may update or revise this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect new app features, statutory requirements, or Google Play policy updates. Any modifications will be posted directly on this page with an updated “Effective Date” and “Last Updated” timestamp.

We recommend reviewing this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about our data protection commitments. Continued use of ClassMate after any revisions signifies your acceptance of the updated terms.
